The hex that Prof. Wood taught you,although low level, was one of many Petrifying curses. Petryfying curses are becoming more popular in our times because it is a safe way to capture any dark wizards without harming them, Unlike in the Dark Ages where Aurors attacked with offensive spells to try to knock their oponent unconsios in wich they actually killed many dark wizards in the process. Now Ms. Anders, can you please tell me what other Petrifying curses there are if you know of any?

Very good Ms. Anderz! The Petrifucus hex ties the victum with invisible "ropes" making them unable to move. The Immobulous spell is not that much of a petrifying spell although it is considered one. Immobulous actually slows the time around the victum to a 1 second 1 hour ratio. Both of these spell are mid level spells.
